MICHIGAN — A 25-year-old Ohio man was arrested Friday morning after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Monroe County, according to authorities.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the pursuit began around 9:12 a.m. in Milan Township after a deputy attempted to stop a gray GMC Sierra for speeding on Ostrander Road near Dundee Azalia Road.
Investigators said the pickup truck was traveling 58 mph in a posted 40 mph zone when the deputy activated emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The driver allegedly accelerated away, turning onto Dundee Azalia Road and reaching speeds between 50 and 60 mph on recently re-graveled roads, causing the vehicle to fishtail repeatedly.
Authorities said the driver continued fleeing through multiple intersections, including running stop signs at Cone Road and Bunce Road. Speeds reportedly reached about 80 mph after the roadway conditions improved.
Deputies said the driver briefly stopped near Barnes Road during an attempted felony stop, but fled again before eventually pulling over a short time later. He was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
During a search of the GMC Sierra, deputies said they found a loaded assault rifle magazine and a box of ammunition. No firearms were recovered from the vehicle.
The suspect, identified only as a 25-year-old man from Fremont, Ohio, was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of felony fleeing and eluding and felon in possession of ammunition.
His name is being withheld pending arraignment in Monroe County 1st District Court.
The investigation remains ongoing.
