Multiple schools in Ohio evacuated following bomb threats

OHIO — Elyria High School and Ely Elementary School were evacuated Friday morning following reported bomb threats, according to the Elyria City School District.

The district announced the first evacuation for Elyria High School on its Facebook page at 9:48 a.m., describing it as a “safety alert.” Officials said students were being evacuated safely and that emergency responders were heading to the school.

Just four minutes later, at 9:52 a.m., the district reported that Ely Elementary was also being evacuated due to a bomb threat.

The district urged the public to stay away from both locations until further notice. “All other district schools are currently in a lockout status as a precaution,” the posts stated. Officials asked residents not to come to the schools or call school offices so that emergency communication lines could remain open. Additional updates were promised as they become available.

The incidents come one day after bomb threats affected several other Ohio schools on Thursday, including those in Alliance, Amherst, Lorain, Shaker Heights, and Orrville.
