
NORTH CAROLINA — A fatal crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer shut down two lanes of Interstate 85 South in Rowan County early Thursday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened near Exit 79 at Andrews Street between Winston-Salem and Charlotte.
Troopers said the crash involved an overturned tractor-trailer and resulted in at least one death. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or said how many vehicles were involved.
Two southbound lanes of I-85 were closed as crews responded to the scene and worked to clear the roadway.
Officials said the highway was expected to reopen by 7 a.m.
Motorists traveling through the area were urged to slow down, remain alert for emergency responders and use caution near the crash site.
The investigation remains ongoing.
