TENNESSEE — A lockdown was briefly implemented Wednesday at Bedford County Schools after a weapon was discovered inside a vehicle at Shelbyville Central High School.
According to Bedford County Schools, the lockdown began around 10:40 a.m. at the Shelbyville school after the weapon was found. Officials said the weapon was confiscated and a student was taken into custody.
In a statement, the school district said the investigation remains ongoing, but officials do not believe there was intent to harm anyone.
“The investigation continues, but it does not appear that harm was the intent,” Bedford County Schools said in a press release.
District officials said the student appeared to have made a mistake, but noted that the district’s zero-tolerance policy would still be enforced.
School officials also said all students were safe and credited school resource officers for responding to the incident.
“We take safety seriously and are so thankful for our SROs,” the district said.
No injuries were reported.
