OHIO — The body of a missing Plain City man was recovered from a retention pond Wednesday after nearly two weeks of searching, according to authorities.
The Plain City Division of Police said the search began around 4 a.m. on April 24 after officers discovered evidence of a crash along Lafayette-Plain City Road. Investigators determined that a single vehicle had lost control and entered a nearby pond.
Officials said the vehicle was located submerged in the water and later removed, but no one was found inside at the time.
In the days following the crash, dive teams from multiple agencies, including the Marysville Police and Fire divisions and the Washington Township Fire Department, conducted extensive search efforts. During that time, a missing persons report was filed for 26-year-old Charlie Rona Thach.
Authorities said that just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, a body was located in the pond. The Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District assisted in recovering the remains, which were later identified by the Madison County Coroner’s Office as Thach.
Officials said the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
The Washington Township Fire Department Dive Team conducted an additional search of the pond but did not locate any other victims.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
