OHIO — A South Carolina man who frequently travels to Ohio for work has won a $1 million prize from the Ohio Lottery, according to a press release.
The man purchased two VIP Millions scratch-off tickets after finishing work at True North #119, located at 381 State Street in Conneaut. Officials said he did not win on the first ticket but became excited while scratching the second.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the winner initially believed he had won $1,000 after seeing the word “mil,” which means 1,000 in Spanish, his first language. As he continued scratching the ticket and later scanned it using a mobile app, he realized the prize was significantly larger.
The ticket was a top prize winner worth $40,000 a year for 25 years, totaling $1 million. The winner chose the cash option of $500,000 and will receive approximately $366,250 after required federal and state taxes.
Lottery officials said the winner plans to buy a small house and invest the remaining money. He also indicated he is considering moving to Ohio.
VIP Millions is a $50 scratch-off game that offers multiple $1 million prizes. As of May 6, 2026, there are 12 top prizes remaining.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
