Buc-ee’s files lawsuit against Georgia convenience store chain over trademark claims

GEORGIA — Buc-ee’s, the Texas-based gas station chain known for its large travel centers, barbecue offerings and beaver-themed merchandise, has filed a lawsuit against a small convenience store chain in Georgia, alleging trademark infringement.

According to the complaint, Buc-ee’s claims that Teddy’s, a convenience store operating in Canton and Ball Ground, attempted to imitate elements of its brand, including its mascot and overall marketing style. The lawsuit was filed last week in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Buc-ee’s alleges that Teddy’s branding could cause confusion among consumers by resembling its well-known beaver logo and established identity. Court documents state that Teddy’s uses a mascot described as an anthropomorphic creature resembling a koala bear.

Records indicate Teddy’s registered its mascot as a trademark in November 2024, around the time its first store opened.

A representative for Teddy’s did not respond to requests for comment as of publication.

The case remains pending in federal court.
