More than 60 calves stolen from Ohio farm overnight

OHIO — More than 60 calves valued at over $100,000 were stolen from a farm near Coldwater during an overnight theft, according to authorities.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office said 64 Holstein steer calves, approximately 13 weeks old and valued at about $2,000 each, were taken from a large barn. The total loss is estimated to exceed $100,000.

Sheriff Doug Timmerman said the theft was discovered when the farmer noticed cattle loose inside the barn and several animals missing. Investigators also found that multiple gates had been moved.

Authorities believe the suspects may have knowledge of the livestock industry. The thieves specifically took the older calves while leaving behind younger ones, suggesting a targeted selection.

Investigators say the calves were likely loaded quickly and transported out of the area. The search for the stolen livestock has expanded across the region and into neighboring Indiana.

Officials have not identified any suspects and continue to investigate the incident.

The theft has prompted concern among local farmers, many of whom are now considering adding security measures such as cameras to protect their livestock.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
