VIRGINIA — A 32-year-old Ohio man is dead and two others are fighting for their lives following a crash in Henrico County Monday morning.
According to police, officers and fire crews were called to Route 5 near New Market Heights Lane around 6:15 a.m. for a reported two-vehicle crash.
When authorities arrived, they found a red Mini Cooper and a Chevrolet Express van involved in the collision.
Police said the driver of the Mini Cooper, identified as 32-year-old Layten Perkins of Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men inside the van were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation indicates the Mini Cooper was traveling west on Route 5 when it crossed the center line and struck the eastbound van head-on.
The roadway was closed for about four hours before reopening around 10:21 a.m.
Officials said alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
