One person dead after crashing into transmission tower in Michigan

MICHIGAN — A 91-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after his vehicle crashed into a transmission tower in Kent County, according to authorities.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the scene around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Tyrone Avenue NW and 18 Mile Road NW in Tyrone Township.

Investigators said the man, a resident of Tyrone Township, was traveling northbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a transmission tower.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the victim’s name.
