TEXAS — Two people were killed and eight others injured in an overnight shooting at an apartment complex in Amarillo, authorities said.
Police responded around 2 a.m. Saturday to reports of gunfire at the Westminster Apartments near Coulter Street and Westgate Parkway.
Investigators said a male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while nine others were transported to local hospitals. One of those victims later died from their injuries, bringing the death toll to two. Officials said five of the injured were in critical condition.
According to police, the shooting followed a gathering involving juveniles and young adults. Authorities said some individuals who had been asked to leave an earlier party followed others to the apartment complex, where they attempted to enter an apartment and opened fire with what was described as a rifle-style weapon.
A nearby resident reported hearing what sounded like rapid or automatic gunfire followed by numerous additional shots.
No arrests have been announced, and additional details have not been released as the investigation continues.
The shooting comes less than six weeks after a series of incidents in Amarillo that left six people dead and 10 others injured on March 22.
