OHIO — A semi-truck crash early Friday morning has shut down the northbound ramp from the Anthony Wayne Trail to Interstate 75, leading to significant traffic disruptions across the Toledo area.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a semi overturned after striking a bridge abutment wall and a pole. The truck, which was carrying tomatoes, spilled its load across the roadway, blocking the three right lanes of I-75 northbound and bringing traffic to a standstill.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the driver of the semi was transported to a hospital. The driver’s condition has not been released.
The Ohio Department of Transportation confirmed that while the bridge abutment was inspected and deemed structurally safe, the crash caused a loss of power to the bridge above. Officials said they are unsure when power will be restored.
Several nearby exits, including South Avenue, Collingwood Boulevard and Bancroft Street, were closed as crews worked to manage traffic and clear the scene. Authorities are rerouting northbound traffic onto I-475 at the Perrysburg split, with drivers entering from Fremont Pike being directed toward downtown Toledo.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as Detroit Avenue or I-475. A separate crash on eastbound I-475 near U.S. 23 briefly caused additional delays along the detour route but has since been cleared.
Cleanup efforts are expected to take several hours and could impact traffic throughout the morning and into midday. Officials continue to monitor the situation as the investigation remains ongoing.
