SOUTH CAROLINA — A Sumter County man was arrested after deputies said a traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal drugs and a stolen firearm.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of South Harvin Street and Newberry Avenue after noticing a vehicle with extremely dark window tint.

During the stop, deputies said they smelled marijuana, which led to a probable cause search of the vehicle. Investigators reported finding several containers of illegal drugs along with a handgun that was later confirmed to be stolen.

The driver, identified as Devonte Daquan Tyre Ford, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine or cocaine base (200–400 grams, second or subsequent offense), trafficking heroin (4–14 grams, second or subsequent offense), possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a stolen handgun.

Authorities said the drugs seized have an estimated street value of nearly $5,000.

Ford was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

The investigation remains ongoing.
