FLORIDA — A 20-year-old Ocala man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Tuesday morning in Marion Oaks, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened just before 5 a.m. along Marion Oaks Boulevard. Investigators determined the motorcyclist was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.

According to authorities, a 44-year-old man driving a semi-truck was stopped at a stop sign on Marion Oaks Drive at the intersection with Marion Oaks Boulevard. As the truck began to proceed north onto the boulevard, the motorcycle struck the semi-truck.

The motorcyclist died before reaching the hospital, officials said. The semi-truck driver was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
