KENTUCKY — Two people are dead and another was seriously injured after a head-on crash involving a dump truck early Monday morning in Marion County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on U.S. 68, also known as Danville Highway.

Investigators said a preliminary investigation revealed that Mahalia Brown, 43, of Magnolia, Mississippi, was driving west when her vehicle crossed the centerline and into the path of an oncoming dump truck.

Authorities said the dump truck driver attempted to avoid the collision by braking and steering but was unable to do so. The vehicles collided head-on.

Brown and a passenger in her vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Thompson, also of Magnolia, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger, 22-year-old Darian Thompson, was taken to Spring View Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
