OHIO — A Niles woman is facing a felony charge after police say she struck another woman with a baseball bat early Friday morning.

Patricia Ellen Morris, 49, is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, following her arraignment.

According to reports, Morris is expected to have a preliminary hearing Monday in municipal court.

Police said officers were initially called around 4 a.m. Friday by Morris, who claimed she had been assaulted by a 43-year-old woman at her home in the 300 block of East Federal Street.

While officers were speaking with Morris, the other woman called police from a home on Helen Avenue requesting an ambulance. When officers arrived, they found her bleeding from her ear.

The woman told police she had been leaving her home when Morris confronted her in the intersection of East Federal Street and West Street and struck her in the head twice with a baseball bat.

A male witness told officers Morris accused the victim of sleeping with him.

The victim declined to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to reports.

Morris remained in jail over the weekend on a $100,000 bond and pleaded not guilty at her arraignment.

The case remains under investigation.
