FLORIDA — A wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 early Monday morning left one woman dead and another driver hospitalized, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just after 2 a.m. near Hammond Boulevard, closing all eastbound lanes of I-10 and forcing traffic to be detoured onto Chaffee Road.
FHP said a 27-year-old Jacksonville man was driving on the wrong side of the interstate when his vehicle collided head-on with an SUV driven by a 35-year-old Jacksonville woman.
The woman died at the scene, investigators said.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said he attempted to run away after the crash but was quickly captured.
The crash remains under investigation.
