TEXAS — A 20-year-old man died early Sunday following a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a car fire along U.S. Highway 90 East, according to police.
Castroville police said officers responded around 3:08 a.m. to the 800 block of the highway after receiving reports of a crash. Prior to the incident, authorities had been alerted to a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near a Walmart along Highway 90.
Shortly afterward, Medina County dispatch received a call reporting that a vehicle had struck a tree. When officers arrived, they found a black Dodge Durango that had collided with the tree and caught fire.
Police said the flames were extinguished by an officer on scene. The driver, identified as Roman Barron, was found inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that next of kin have been notified.
Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
