VIRGINIA — A man from Bassett, Virginia has been arrested following a drug bust in Henry County, according to authorities.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said deputies with the patrol division began investigating suspected narcotics distribution at a home on Riverside Drive in Bassett. A search warrant was obtained for the residence.
During the search, deputies said a resident, identified as Gregory Ray Meade, arrived at the property. Authorities attempted to direct him into the driveway, but he drove away briefly before entering a nearby parking lot and then returning to the home.
Investigators said they searched the area where Meade had driven and found a bag containing suspected methamphetamine and another bag with suspected Schedule II pills. A search of his vehicle led to the seizure of multiple digital scales and cell phones, items deputies said are commonly associated with drug distribution.
According to authorities, Meade later admitted to involvement in distributing narcotics, including methamphetamine, and told deputies he discarded the drugs after seeing law enforcement.
Officials also said children live at the home. Due to the suspected drug activity, the Martinsville-Henry County Department of Social Services was contacted. Social services personnel responded and took custody of the children, placing them with a family member.
Meade, 54, is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics. He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
