TEXAS — Two people were killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer Wednesday morning that led to the closure of a major highway south of La Pryor, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 83 South, just south of La Pryor. Officials said the collision involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle.
According to the La Pryor Volunteer Fire Department, the crash resulted in two fatalities. The identities of the victims have not been released.
As a result of the crash, Highway 83 between La Pryor and Crystal City was shut down. Authorities said the roadway will remain closed until further notice as crews continue to respond and investigate.
Uvalde EMS also responded to the scene. Zavala County deputies and the Texas Department of Public Safety are handling the investigation.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the closure remains in effect.
The incident remains under investigation.
