MICHIGAN — A Coopersville man died after a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 94 in Berrien County, according to authorities.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. near mile marker 27.4, close to the Niles Road/M-63 exit in Royalton Township.
Investigators said a U-Haul truck pulling a trailer made a last-minute lane change in an active construction zone, triggering a chain-reaction crash. Authorities said traffic slowed quickly, but an eastbound semi-truck was unable to stop in time.
The semi struck a small passenger bus that had been converted for personal use, pushing it into an SUV.
Officials identified the victim as 41-year-old Brian Luke of Coopersville. He died while being transported to a hospital following the crash.
Several people riding in the bus were also injured, though the extent of their injuries has not been released.
The sheriff’s office is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in construction zones to help prevent similar crashes.
The incident remains under investigation.
