Georgia high school announces closure due to sewage blockage

GEORGIA — Riverwood International Charter School is closed Tuesday after a “significant” sewage blockage forced administrators to suspend in-person classes.

School officials said students were shifted to remote learning for the day while crews work to resolve the issue. All after-school activities and athletic events have also been canceled.

Principal Kindra Smith notified families of the closure in a letter, stating that maintenance teams are actively addressing the problem and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The cause of the sewage blockage has not yet been determined.

School leaders have not announced when normal operations will resume. The situation remains under investigation.
