TEXAS — One person is dead following a fiery crash early Tuesday that forced the closure of inbound lanes on Highway 290 near the Fairbanks North Houston Road exit, authorities said.
According to Houston police, the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on the inbound exit ramp. Investigators said the incident involved a single vehicle that caught fire, resulting in one fatality at the scene.
Officials have not released the identity of the victim, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The inbound lanes of Highway 290 were shut down at the Senate Avenue exit ramp as crews worked the scene. Authorities warned the closure could last for several hours, leading to significant traffic delays during the morning commute.
Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes, including the North Loop, Beltway 8, West Tidwell Road, Pinemont Drive, and Antoine Drive or Wirt Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
