FLORIDA — A late-night crash at a Bonita Springs intersection left two people dead Sunday after an SUV turned into the path of a motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 10:23 p.m. at the intersection of Imperial Parkway and East Terry Street. An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Fort Myers was traveling north on Imperial Parkway at a high rate of speed as an SUV approached the intersection heading south in a left-turn lane.
Authorities said both drivers had a green traffic signal at the time. The SUV driver, a 65-year-old man from Bonita Springs, began making a left turn and entered the motorcycle’s path.
Investigators said the front of the motorcycle struck the front-right side of the SUV, leaving the rider trapped within the passenger side of the vehicle.
The motorcyclist and a 55-year-old female passenger in the SUV, also from Bonita Springs, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
