FLORIDA — A tire blowout led to a deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 4 in Orange County early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. along I-4 near mile markers 66 to 68, close to the Gaylord Palms exit.
Investigators said a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling westbound suffered a right-rear tire blowout, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times and strike a guardrail.
During the crash, one passenger was ejected from the vehicle onto the eastbound center lane of the interstate. Authorities said the individual was then struck by a Lexus CT traveling eastbound.
The ejected passenger was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The driver and six other passengers in the Trailblazer were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with injuries. Their conditions have not been released.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-4 were temporarily closed during the investigation but have since reopened.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
