The pursuit began around 3 p.m. in the area of Houston Street and Virginia Street when a driver reportedly refused to stop for officers.
During the chase, police attempted to deploy spike strips in an effort to slow the vehicle, officials said.
Authorities said the pursuit reached speeds between 70 and 80 miles per hour before coming to an end near Holcombe Avenue and the 600 block of Williams Street, where the suspect crashed the vehicle.
Following the crash, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was tackled by officers in the front yard of a nearby home.
Officials at the scene reported that both police vehicles and the suspect’s vehicle struck multiple other vehicles during the chase.
No additional information about injuries or charges was immediately released.
