KENTUCKY — A man died early Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 64 shortly after crashing his semi, according to Kentucky State Police.
The incident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. near mile marker 150 on I-64 East.
Investigators said Anwarulhaq Safi, 33, was driving a semi when it abruptly veered to the right, struck a guardrail and slid down a steep embankment before overturning onto its side.
After the crash, troopers said Safi exited the vehicle, climbed back up the embankment and entered the eastbound lanes of the interstate, where he was standing in the roadway. He was then struck by a passing vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Carter County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Safi was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center for evaluation. Authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the incident.
The crash remains under active investigation by Kentucky State Police.
