
NORTH CAROLINA — Police are asking for the public’s help following an early morning shooting that left a 15-year-old injured in Kinston, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, April 12, in the St. John Village area. According to the Kinston Police Department, officers were already nearby responding to a reported burglary in progress when they heard multiple gunshots.
Moments later, officers observed a man dressed in all black running westbound from St. John Village across Parker Street. Police detained the individual as they began investigating the situation.
At the same time, dispatchers received additional calls reporting that a person had been shot near an apartment building in the neighborhood. Officers responded and located a 15-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Police said officers immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived. The teenager was then transported to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment. The teen’s current condition has not been released.
Investigators and crime scene personnel responded to collect evidence and continue working to determine what led up to the shooting. Authorities say the case remains under active investigation, and no additional details about potential charges have been released.
