One person dead following vehicle crash on I-95 in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — One person was killed early Saturday morning in a crash involving a minivan and a gas tanker truck on Interstate 95 in Harnett County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Officials said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on I-95 North near mile marker 70 at Bud Hawkins Road, prompting the closure of the northbound lanes.

Troopers said a white minivan crashed into the back of a heavy-duty fuel tanker truck. One person died from injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.

No other injuries were reported.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reported that I-95 North was reopened shortly before 6 a.m. after crews cleared the scene.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash to determine what led to the collision.
