FLORIDA — A 16-year-old Alabama teenager has been arrested after authorities say the student made a threatening post on social media involving a firearm.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the teen allegedly posted a photo that included a gun along with a targeted threat directed at another student at Paxton School.
Investigators identified the suspect as a resident of Florala, Alabama, who also attends Paxton School. Deputies took the student into custody in Walton County before school hours.
Sheriff Michael Adkinson said in a statement that threats against schools are taken seriously.
“The safety of our students and school staff is our highest priority. Any threat made toward a school, whether online or in person, will be taken seriously and investigated fully. We will continue working closely with the Walton County School District to ensure our children and employees are protected,” Adkinson said.
No additional details about charges or court proceedings were immediately released.
