OHIO — A passenger was killed in a rollover crash late Thursday night in Concord Township, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 11:05 p.m. to the area of Prouty Road between Auburn Road and Ravenna Road for a reported one-vehicle crash. A 911 caller reported the vehicle was on its hood after striking a utility pole, bringing down power lines.
When deputies arrived, they found bystanders already attempting to assist the occupants.
Investigators said the vehicle, carrying two people, went off the south side of the roadway, struck and snapped a utility pole, then went airborne before rolling at least once. The vehicle came to rest upside down in the front yard of a nearby home.
Both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and were extricated by firefighters from the Concord Township Fire Department.
The driver was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was also taken to a hospital, where they later died.
The Lake County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while crews investigated the crash and repaired the damaged utility pole.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved. It remains unclear whether alcohol was a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
