NORTH CAROLINA — A man is facing a voluntary manslaughter charge following a deadly shooting Thursday afternoon in Kannapolis, according to police.
Officers with the Kannapolis Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 1200 block of Sears Street around 2:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Laron Massenburg suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said 25-year-old Jalen Blanton was at the home when officers arrived. He was taken into custody and charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting.
Blanton is currently being held at the Cabarrus County Jail.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
