
SOUTH CAROLINA — Thousands of residents across South Carolina are without electricity Friday morning, according to the latest data from PowerOutage.us.
As of the most recent update, approximately 4,442 customers statewide are experiencing power outages, representing about 0.14% of the more than 3 million customers tracked.
Horry County was the hardest-hit area, accounting for the vast majority of outages with 4,176 customers without power. That equates to about 1.62% of customers in the county.
Smaller outages were also reported in Aiken County, where 90 customers were affected, along with Darlington County with 53 outages and Spartanburg County with 40. Additional scattered outages were reported in Charleston, Richland, Laurens and Anderson counties.
By utility provider, Santee Cooper reported the highest number of outages, with 4,176 customers affected, or about 1.94% of its service area. Other utilities, including Dominion Energy and Duke Energy, reported significantly fewer outages.
South Carolina currently ranks among the top states in the nation for power outages, with the second-highest number of outages and the third-highest percentage of customers affected, according to the data.
Restoration efforts are ongoing, and customers are encouraged to report outages to their local utility providers.
