One person dead following motorcycle crash in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — One person has died following a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Florence County, according to officials.

Authorities said the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of Hoffmeyer Road near the Grove Park community. Crews with West Florence Fire-Rescue responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, one person died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials said the motorcycle involved in the crash was found on fire when crews arrived.

All lanes of Hoffmeyer Road heading toward Darlington County remained closed as the South Carolina Highway Patrol conducted its on-scene investigation.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the Florence Police Department assisted with traffic control.

The crash remains under investigation.
