
FLORIDA — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman whose body was found near a fish camp in Punta Gorda.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the woman’s body was discovered March 29 in Hunter Creek, near the Peace River and areas including Peace River Shores and Palm Shores along U.S. Highway 17.
Investigators said the woman is believed to be between 50 and 80 years old and had been in the water for several days. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Authorities described the woman as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall with light-colored hair. She was also noted to have purple nail polish on her toes. Detectives believe she may have had pre-existing medical issues prior to her death.
Officials are asking anyone who may recognize the description or knows someone who has recently missed medical appointments or other obligations without notice to contact the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit at 941-575-5361.
Sheriff Bill Prummell said in a statement, “If there is someone out there who knows who this person is, I pray that they will come forward.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
