
MICHIGAN — Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered along a highway in Gratiot County.
According to the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were found along northbound U.S. 127 near Michigan Avenue in Pine River Township.
Officials said the Gratiot County Road Commission discovered the possible remains Tuesday while performing maintenance work in the area.
Deputies responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Michigan State Police Forensic Team and the Michigan State University Anthropology Unit, which confirmed the remains were human.
Investigators have not released details regarding the identity, gender or description of the individual. Authorities also said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
The remains were transported to the Genesee County Medical Examiner’s Office, where officials will work to positively identify the individual.
The investigation remains ongoing.
