INDIANA — A woman from New Haven was injured Tuesday morning after a crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County.
According to authorities, DeKalb County Central Communications first received a report of a reckless driver heading north on I-69 near the 326-mile marker around 7:39 a.m. A short time later, dispatchers received a second call reporting a rollover crash near the 330-mile marker.
Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police responded to the scene and found 57-year-old Elizabeth Hughes in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Fusion. Officials said she was drifting in and out of consciousness.
Investigators determined Hughes’ vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck driven by 67-year-old Daniel Staelens of Jerome. Her vehicle then left the roadway, struck a cable barrier and rolled over.
Hughes was transported by Parkview EMS to a hospital, where she was treated for minor cuts and bruises. Staelens was not injured.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation, pending chemical testing on both drivers.
