NORTH CAROLINA — A couple was killed and an infant was injured following a multi-vehicle crash in Washington County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 11:42 a.m. on April 1 along NC-32. Investigators determined a Ford passenger car traveling north crossed the centerline and collided with an empty Freightliner grain truck traveling south.

Authorities identified the victims as 42-year-old Harry Spruill of Plymouth and 37-year-old Whitney Spruill. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

An infant passenger in the car was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.

Additional information shared through a GoFundMe fundraiser indicated the victims were a married couple who leave behind two young children, including a kindergartener and a 6-month-old baby.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
