NORTH CAROLINA — A 74-year-old man has died after being struck by a pickup truck Saturday morning in Wilkes County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred just before 9:15 a.m. on South Windy Gap Road near Jarvis Store Road in Wilkesboro.
Investigators said Douglas Williams walked into the path of a 2016 Ford pickup as it came around a curve and was struck.
Authorities said Williams was transported to a medical center, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the pickup was not injured.
According to troopers, the initial investigation does not indicate that impairment or speed were contributing factors in the crash.
Officials said the roadway was closed for about an hour while troopers conducted their on-scene investigation.
After consulting with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office, authorities said no charges will be filed at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
