NORTH CAROLINA — A 22-year-old woman is dead following an early morning crash in Wilkes County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Dav Road near J. Harrold Drive in North Wilkesboro.
Investigators said Kailey Everette was driving a 2005 Honda Element when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned.
Authorities said Everette was ejected from the vehicle and then struck a mailbox.
She was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.
Troopers said Everette was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and investigators believe speed was a contributing factor.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while crews conducted the on-scene investigation.
Officials said no charges will be filed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
