NORTH CAROLINA — A juvenile driver has died following a crash involving a stolen vehicle during a police chase in Greensboro, according to authorities.

The Greensboro Police Department said officers attempted an investigative stop just before 7 p.m. at the Refuel gas station on East Market Street after locating a stolen vehicle.

Police said the driver ignored commands and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.

During the incident, a female passenger fell from the vehicle onto the pavement and suffered minor injuries.

Officers later located the wreckage on Huffine Mill Road, where investigators determined the vehicle had been involved in a single-car crash. Authorities said the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency crews responded and began lifesaving efforts at the scene. The driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said.

The identities of those involved have not been released.

Officials said the department’s Professional Standards Division will conduct an internal investigation to determine whether officers followed department policy. The officers involved have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome.

The investigation remains ongoing.
