GEORGIA — A man was arrested after a traffic stop on Interstate 75 led to the discovery of drugs in a vehicle that also contained juveniles, according to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident occurred Thursday, April 2, when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a silver Toyota near mile marker 104 on I-75 in Cordele.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver, identified as Kingston Smith, was traveling 92 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.

During the stop, the deputy reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.

Officials said the search uncovered a large quantity of marijuana packaged in multiple small vacuum-sealed bags consistent with distribution.

Authorities also confirmed that juveniles were inside the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Smith was taken to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office and charged with possession of marijuana and speeding in excess of maximum limits.

The sheriff’s office is also warning parents to be aware of how some drugs are being packaged.

The investigation remains ongoing.
