Two people dead following vehicle crash on I-75 in Georgia

GEORGIA — Two men are dead following a multi-vehicle crash involving commercial trucks Friday morning in Cobb County, according to police.

The Cobb County Police Department said its STEP Unit responded to the crash around 8:34 a.m. on Interstate 75 northbound near Hickory Grove Road.

Investigators said a red 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by 28-year-old Zory Beavers of Conyers, failed to maintain its lane and struck another Freightliner traveling in an adjacent lane.

Police said the impact caused Beavers’ truck to rotate and overturn onto its left side before striking a sound barrier wall along the right shoulder.

During the crash sequence, a 2018 Ram 3500 pulling a flatbed trailer also collided with the rear of the first truck’s trailer.

Authorities said Beavers and a second driver, identified as 42-year-old Royan Osborne of Norcross, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner.

Two other drivers involved in the crash, ages 62 and 48, were not injured.

Investigators said the preliminary cause of the crash was failure to maintain lane, though it remains unclear what caused the driver to drift. Officials said it is unknown whether weather conditions or mechanical issues played a role.

The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department.
