One person dead following motorcycle crash in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A motorcyclist has died following a crash involving a car on Route 17 in Gloucester County, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday on Route 17 south of Brother Sams Road. State police said a motorcycle traveling southbound collided with a 2017 Toyota Camry that was leaving a shopping center.

Authorities said the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Camry was not injured.

The crash led to an extended shutdown of Route 17 in the area of Featherbed Lane and the 4800 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. All lanes reopened around 5:30 p.m., according to officials.

Virginia State Police said the crash remains under investigation.
