OHIO — A bus aide with the Youngstown City School District has been arrested after allegedly pulling a knife on a middle school student during a bus ride last year, according to police.
Authorities said the incident occurred in April 2025 when 21-year-old Jaime Santana-Garcia allegedly threatened an East Middle School student while traveling from the school to Youngstown’s north side.
According to a police report, surveillance video shows Santana-Garcia speaking with the student and others before striking the student’s hat. Investigators said the video then shows him holding what appeared to be a silver object as he moved into the student’s seat.
The student’s grandmother later reported that the child came home upset and claimed Santana-Garcia held a switchblade to his neck for approximately 10 seconds.
School officials said Santana-Garcia was placed on administrative leave during the district’s investigation and has since resigned. Authorities said evidence from the case was turned over to the Youngstown Police Department.
Police said Santana-Garcia was arrested Tuesday on a warrant connected to the case.
Court records show he is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of endangering children. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
