One person dead following drowning incident in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA — A 17-year-old died Monday afternoon after a drowning incident at Lake Eufaula, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the incident happened around 4 p.m. approximately two miles northeast of the town of Canadian in Pittsburg County.

Investigators said the teenager had been on a 12-foot inflatable paddle board prior to the incident. It is unclear what led up to the drowning.

Authorities said the teen’s body was recovered about 40 feet from the shoreline in water roughly nine feet deep. Officials reported the body was located using a dragbar.

The victim’s identity has not been released because they were under the age of 18. Troopers said the teen was from Canadian.

According to the report, the teenager was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident.

The drowning remains under investigation.
