NORTH CAROLINA — A multi-agency law enforcement operation in Uptown Charlotte led to 18 arrests and the seizure of 11 firearms following a series of traffic stops, according to police.

Authorities said the crackdown took place Thursday, March 26, and focused on “hot spot” areas, including Romare Bearden Park, First Ward Park and Third Ward Park.

The operation, part of “Operation Queen City Safe,” involved the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department along with assistance from the FBI and other agencies. Officials said the effort was aimed at improving public safety in the city’s central business district.

During the operation, officers conducted 170 traffic stops and issued 55 citations. In addition to the arrests and firearms seized, police said they recovered approximately 2.78 pounds of narcotics and $1,353 in cash. One search warrant was also executed.

Authorities have not released details about those arrested or the specific charges filed.

Officials say similar operations may continue as part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime in high-traffic areas.
