Multiple schools in Illinois to close this week

ILLINOIS — Most public schools across Illinois are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on district calendars from around the state.

Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026. While Illinois does not mandate a single statewide school holiday calendar, individual districts set their own schedules. However, a review of multiple school systems shows a consistent pattern: many districts will not hold classes that day.

Several districts explicitly list Good Friday as a no-school day. In Salt Fork Community Unit School District, April 3 is designated “Good Friday – District Closed,” with no classes scheduled. Similarly, North Shore School District 112 and other suburban Chicago-area districts list Good Friday as “No School” for students.

Other districts also confirm closures tied directly to the holiday. Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 lists April 3 as “District Closed,” while Township High School District 125 identifies the day as “Not in Attendance,” meaning students are off.

In many parts of the state, schools will be closed as part of spring break rather than a standalone holiday. For example, Oak Park Elementary School District 97 schedules spring break from March 30 through April 3, meaning students are already out of school on Good Friday.

Because Illinois school calendars are determined locally, there is no centralized statewide list of closures. However, district schedules show a clear statewide trend: the majority of public schools will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within spring break.

Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may structure their calendars differently.
