Multiple schools in Alabama to close this week

ALABAMA — Many public schools across Alabama are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on a review of district calendars statewide.

Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026. While Alabama does not require a uniform statewide school holiday schedule, local school systems typically align their calendars to recognize the day as a holiday or include it within spring break.

Several districts have explicitly listed Good Friday as a no-school day. In Oxford City Schools, April 3 is designated as “Good Friday,” with no classes scheduled for students. Boaz City Schools also lists Good Friday as a day when students are out of school, with campuses closed for the holiday.

Other districts will be closed as part of spring break rather than a single-day observance. Dothan City Schools, for example, schedules spring break from March 30 through April 3, meaning students are out of school on Good Friday. Similar calendar structures appear in multiple systems across the state.

Because Alabama school calendars are set locally, there is no centralized statewide list of closures. However, a review of multiple district schedules shows a clear trend: the majority of public schools across the state will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within spring break.

Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may structure their academic calendars differently.
