Multiple schools in Georgia to close this week

GEORGIA — Most public schools across Georgia are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, though closures vary by district.

Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026, and is recognized as an official state holiday in Georgia, with state offices closed. As a result, many school systems across the state align their academic calendars to include the day as a holiday or within spring break.

Several districts will have no classes on Good Friday as part of a scheduled break. For example, Twiggs County Public Schools lists a spring break running from March 30 through April 3, meaning schools are closed on Good Friday.

Similarly, many metro Atlanta-area districts—including Fayette County, Clayton County, Henry County, and Gwinnett County—schedule spring break for April 6–10, effectively placing Good Friday immediately before or adjacent to the break period.

Other districts also observe the holiday directly. Effingham County Schools lists Good Friday on its calendar as a closure for certain operations, reflecting how some systems formally recognize the day.

Across Georgia, there is no centralized school calendar, and each district determines its own schedule. However, a review of multiple systems shows a clear statewide trend: many schools will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within or alongside spring break.

Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may remain open or structure their calendars differently.
